Obituary

Maryalyce McIntosh Ersing, 88, peacefully passed away in her sleep with her caregivers by her side on August 14, 2020.
A long time Upper Arlington, Ohio resident, Maryalyce was born August 10, 1932 in Springfield, MA the daughter of the late William R. and Alice McIntosh. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Maryalyce is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Stephen (Christine) and grandsons William (Meredith) daughter Coralie; Christopher, and Robert; Curtis (Joanne) and grandsons Ben (Jennifer) son Emmet; Evan (Nicole) daughter Emery; and Kristen (Steven) Roach and grandchildren Aeron (fiance, Melanie), Kellen and Ganen. Maryalyce is also survived by: her sisters-in-law Hilda (the late Leroy Lyon), Carol (the late Paul Ersing), Jeanine (the late Bill McIntosh); brother-in-law Carl Ersing (Irene), and ten nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by: her beloved husband, Walter, of 65 years, her grandson Jonathan, her parents, her step father Charlie Schmand, her brothers, William "Bill" and Jack McIntosh, her in-laws Erhard and Luise Ersing and brothers-in-law Hans and Paul Ersing. Maryalyce attended Commerce High School in Springfield, MA and Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio. She served as a bookkeeper for two engineering firms and was active in the community whether it was: by saving green spaces for city parks, toy making for Children's Hospital Burn Unit, illustrating a centennial cookbook for an Ohio State University scholarship fund, school volunteering, museum volunteering, serving as a Precinct Captain for local and national elections as well as serving as leadership on various community boards. She embraced putting care and creativity into her life: baking amazing pies and holiday cookie trays, painting beautiful watercolors, creating stunning flower arrangements, reading, gardening, designing sewing projects. Maryalyce celebrated a gift of hospitality and was truly blessed by friends especially all The Ohio State University graduate students and OSU Soccer team members who were welcomed, through her husband's work, for family meals. Memories built with extended family member Catherine (the late Horst Blodau) and life long friend Rita Benoit were also prized by Maryalyce. In her later years she counted time spent with her grandchildren as a gift and took great joy in celebrating each of them as their Nana. The family extends their deepest thanks and gratitude to her caregivers at the Ganzhorn Suites Wedgewood Community and Capital City Hospice. Her private burial and memorial service was held at the Hillcrest Park Cemetery Springfield, MA. Private arrangements in Columbus, Ohio have been entrusted with JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue. If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to University Women's Club of The Ohio State University UWC Scholarship Fund, The University Women's Club at: OSU P.O.
