Obituary
Viva Roberts Fowler, age 95, of Columbus, Ohio, died peacefully at home in her sleep on October 3, 2013. She was born February 11, 1918, in Hulett, Wyoming to Ruth and Dallas Roberts. She was reared in Los Angeles, California, by her loving and devoted mother who was widowed when Viva was 8 years of age. In 1939 Viva married her high school sweetheart, Gerald Fowler, and was preceded in death by him in 1996. Viva worked in Los Angeles for a Trade Association and in Columbus for Glen Falls Insurance Company and North American Rockwell Aviation. From 1990-2011 Viva worked in administration for QSDS (Quilt Surface Design Symposium International), and was a passionate supporter of the arts in Columbus and abroad. Viva loved to read, knit, and make baby quilts for premature and abandoned babies. In the past week, Viva finished a shawl for a dear friend who is undergoing chemo. She especially loved family get-togethers and "Breakfast in the Woods." Viva was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always with a ready ear and an open heart. Preceded in death by her infant brother, Glenn; parents; her husband; her son, Peter; and her two dear great-grandsons, Noah Hummer and Jon Fowler. She is survived by daughters, Linda Fowler and Lari (Ted) Hummer; daughter-in-law, Mayellen Fowler; grandchildren, Gerald Fowler II, John Christopher (Lori) Fowler, Andrew (Brenda) Fowler, Matthew (Tara) Hummer, Nancy (Steve) Heink, Julie (Rex) Bertram, Annie (Scott) DePerro, Michael Hummer. Dear Lari and Linda and Family, heartfelt condolences on the loss of your mother. She certainly had a beautiful smile. My neighbor told me her mother is always with her, even though she died. I developed the same attitude about my mom and it helps. I'll be thinking of you. Sincerely, Mary

Dear Linda: I so missed you and your Mom at Mass when she no longer could attend, and now I will miss her again knowing that she has gone on to the next world. It was a delight knowing her--she was so interested and present in all the events of life. It was wonderful making those desert connections---my son and I were so happy to have been able to help her. Linda, I will send my prayers and ask God to bless her and you.
