Kathy,

Charles and I were terribly sorry to hear about the loss of your father. The words "I'm sorry" don't seem like enough to express oneself; however, it is the best that we can do. You and your family will be remembered in our prayers during this difficult time.

Both of us want you to know how kind Dr. Makley was to us whenever he saw us. Your dad was always so gracious to Charles when the two of them talked about the hospital. And to me, all the time I was affiliated with the Department, his kindness was above & beyond. Upon learning that I was leaving the department he was visibly upset and remarked "who am I going to come to for answers?" I was geniunely touched by his caring.

He will be deeply missed, but I believe that his soft footsteps will always be heard in the department; and his chuckle will always be remembered by his family and all of us who cared about him.

Once again, our deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Fondly,
Priscilla & Charles Vitelli

We just wanted you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers. We both know the loss you feel today. Your Dad lived a long and full life. He definitely had many people who loved him, what a life to have had all of you kids and grandkids. We pray God's comfort and peace will be with you now and in the days ahead. Mike and Jon,

My sister, Susan, called me last night with the sad news of your dad's passing. Please accept my sincere condolences to you and your families.

I must, of course, share a story about your dad. Just before leaving for law school I was having dinner at your house with your parents. Your dad asked me when the last time I had my eyes checked. I told him I thought I was in the sixth grade. He was appalled and told me to come by his office that week. He gave me a thorough eye exam and refused any payment. He predicted that in a year or two i would look up from a law book and not be able to see anything. He was right.

My daughter, Genevieve, was seriously ill several years ago and required a 10 week stay at Johns Hopkins. I heard that Mike was working Baltimore and i tried to contact you, but no luck.

I hope you guys are well. It's a shame we've fallen out of touch as many, many of my best high school memories include you. Remember FOOPBP? I haven't thought of that in a very long time.

I'm living in Denver with my wife and four kids, including a little girl we just adopted from China in September.

I hope life is treating you well and i would like to hear how you are doing.

Again, my condolences to you and your family on your loss.

Regards,

Joe (joe.ruble@gmail.com)

It was an honor to have known and trained under Dr. Makley. He was a superb mentor and gentleman whom I shall always remember. I cannot really describe what it meant to be in his presence during my training. So special , so compassionate, and so knowledgeable, he can never be replaced.

So very sorry to hear a/b your Dad; such a special person in all our lives. I will never forget how he and Jo came to the funeral home to process w/us to the church for Dad. Meant a lot to us and I saw that you specified a processional from the mortuary. That is the way to do it. We will be in touch and will of course send you a letter.

This is the end of an era for Tod and my father; we shall explore a new era for all of us!

So very sorry we cannot be there,
