Obituary

Suzanne Marie (nee Heatley) Duffey, 85, of Columbus, Ohio, died on May 1, 2013 of natural causes. Born in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of Dr. Robert F. Heatley and Fannie (Ransom) Heatley. A 1945 graduate of St. Ursula Academy in Toledo, Ohio, she graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing in 1948 and worked at Mercy Hospital in Toledo. After her marriage later that year to John J. Duffey, Suzanne moved with her family to Columbus, Ohio in 1954. She resumed her nursing career in the 1960’s, working at Grant Hospital, then for cardiologist Dr. Rose, and finally The Ohio State University Family Practice and Veterans Clinics, from which she retired in 1986. Suzanne was a lifelong Roman Catholic, and always participated in the life of her parish, starting with Rosary Cathedral in Toledo, and Immaculate Conception, Our Lady of Peace, the Newman Center and Our Lady of Victory in central Ohio. She was a former member of the Ohio Nurses Association. She was known for her humor, her talent as a seamstress and in embroidery, her love for “her veterans,” and her loyalty to That Team Up North. Suzanne loved and was loved by her family and friends, and is survived by her dear brother, William Heatley of Marco Island, Florida and her loving children Carole Duffey Hise of Columbia, MD; John Duffey, Jr. (Nancy Powers) of Dublin, OH; Nancy Duffey Edwards (David Edwards) of Upper Arlington, Ohio; Timothy Duffey (Colleen Duffey) of Upper Arlington, OH; Mary Duffey (Tony Logan) of Columbus, OH; Kevin Duffey (Natalie Wymer) of San Francisco, CA; Karen Kuhlman Vaeth (Michael Vaeth) of Columbus, OH; and Charles Kuhlman (Rebecca Kuhlman) of Columbus, OH, as well as by many dear grandchildren, great grandchild, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her dear parents, her former husband and friend John Duffey, and her sister, Caroline Heatley Kuhlman. The family is very grateful to the staff of First Community Village and the ministry of Our Lady of Victory for their warm and loving care. Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m., on Monday, May 6, 2013, at St. Christopher Church, 1420 Grandview Avenue, Columbus, with visitation at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Peggy Harman just now called and told me of Suzi's
passing. I am so saddened that I can't see her that one more time again; however I do know that what is important is that this dearest of friends is at peace at last. The last time I visited, she seemed anxious to get on with it. Blessings on all of you; she loved you well. Ann and Tom McCrystal
