Obituary

Robert Leland "Kim" Nichol, 75, passed away peacefully in the presence of God and his family at the St. Leonard's San Damiano Residence Memory Center in Dayton, Ohio on Friday, September 14, 2012. He was born October 5, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Hubert L. Nichol and Gertrude Alsdorf Nichol. Kim was a 1955 graduate of North High School. Kim graduated in 1959 from The Ohio State University with a bachelor of fine arts degree where he was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. During his professional career as an interior designer, Kim worked for Columbus Blank Book Company, Karlsberger & Associates, Design Group, Inc. all of Columbus. He also ventured into self-employment for a time, establishing Robert L. Nichol & Associates. Kim's career took him to Dayton, Ohio where he worked for Lorenz & Williams for nearly 15 years. In later years, Kim returned to Columbus and became an assistant professor at Columbus College of Art & Design which he retired from in 2002. During his lifelong career, Kim was a part of many design projects including the interior of the Christopher Inn (Cols.), NCR World Headquarters, Centerville High School Football Stadium, Children’s and Kettering Hospitals (Dayton), R.J. Reynolds (Winston-Salem, N.C.), as well as being a major force to establish the interiors program at CCAD allowing them to become FIDER accredited. Enjoying all of his employment, it
was his teaching at CCAD that held his heart. “Teaching for me is a great opportunity to pay back to a profession that has been so good to me” Kim once said in an interview. Kim was a member of St. Cecilia Parish where he was a member of the Hospitality crew and the St Vincent DePaul Society. Kim had a love of tennis playing regularly at Swim & Racquet with his fellow cohorts. Kim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Lou DeVictor Nichol. Mary Lou..Patti and I are remembering the good times we had with Bob and you bowling. Playing tennis with Bob was always fun except he beat me most of the time.

We are thinking of you and the family.

Debbie and family,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father/grandfather. I am praying to the Blessed Virgin Mary to comfort you with her motherly love and bless you with peace.

Every time you walk into the CHS stadium or go to Children's or Kettering hospitals or any of the wonderful places he has been a part of, his legacy is there. You know though that his true legacy is in your heart.

My heart goes out to you and your family. God bless you!

Debbie, Cody,Nick, and Mrs. Nichol,
I am so very sorry to hear about father, grandpa and spouse's passing. It is such a difficult time. There are few words that can comfort you. Time helps and knowing that your friends are thinking of you and praying for you at this difficult time. I know this is one of those timesw when the footprints in the sand are the Lords only, as he is carrying you in his loving arms. God Bless you and know that we are thinking of you and remember all the great times with him when you can.
