Obituary

Richard "Rich" Patrick Susi, age 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Willow Brook Christian Village in Delaware. Born April 12, 1934 in Columbus where he was a member of the Abruzzi Club and parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Delaware. Rich was a gentle man with a kind spirit who was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed fishing, being in the sunshine and the Ohio State Buckeyes. During his years at Willow Brook, Rich was honored as a recipient of the Gift of Love Award for appreciation of acts of kindness performed for the benefit of other residents. He was known as Willow Brook's "night watchman" for signaling the beginning and ending of each day by assisting the staff with turning on and off lights and music throughout the building. He carried on this voluntary task for more than seven years missing only when his health prevented it. His infectious smile and cheerful demeanor will be missed by all. Preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Agnes Susi; infant sister Rose Angela and brother Robert. He is survived by sister-in-law Anna Susi of Worthington; nieces Brenda (Biff) Eschenbrenner of Dublin; Colette (Tim) Woolf of Grove City; Debbie (Dean) Willett of Mason; and nephew Robert (Cheryl) Susi of Powell; as well as great nieces and nephews Rob and Scott Klarman, Nicole, Andrew and Matthew Woolf, Tyler and Lauren Willett, and Olivia, Isabella and Victoria Susi; dear friends Roger and Ruby Hackett. Also survived by aunts, uncles and many cousins. The family would like to thank the exceptional and caring staff at Willow Brook, who treated Rich like family as well as the staff at Grady Memorial Hospital. Friends may call FRIDAY, January 2nd, 2009 at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 W. 5th Avenue, from 2:00-4:00 with a Prayer Service at 3:45 and 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 AM on SATURDAY, January 3rd, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 82 E. William Street, Delaware, Ohio, Rev. Fr. James P. Black, Presider. Entombment will follow at the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum, 9571 North High Street, Lewis Center, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Willow Brook Centrum and Cherith Centers in Rich's memory at 100 Willow Brook Way South, Delaware, Ohio 43015. Richard and his parents were my neighbors and friends. I grew up across the creek beside where The Hacketts live today. As a teenager, I used to cut their grass. My memories of Richard are exactly as he's described by others. A more gentle, kind and friendly man could not be found. I can see him waving and hear him saying "Hi Chucky" in my mind right now. I fondly remember our talks and experiences together, especially on those sunshiney summer days. It was a pleasure and a privilege to have known him. With Christian faith, I look forward to seeing him again some day. Sincerely with condolences,
- Chuck Christensen & family

Dear Ann & family,
We were saddened to hear of Rich's passing. I knew the last couple years had been tough for him but will always remember him smiling and laughing through the difficult times. I apologize for not being able to come today as i had prior commitments out of town. You are in my thoughts and prayers and we know that God has the ability to make even our saddest times happy. A great feeling to know that Rich is now rejoined with his family for eternity and that we all will see him again someday. I'm proud and honored to have known Rich and was still able to see him throughout his life.
with fondest memories,
bob fisher...
