Philomenia "Minnie" Fancelli, age 97, passed away on Friday December 28th, 2007 surrounded by her loving family. Minnie was born in Columbus, Ohio April 7, 1910 to Leonard and Carmela Benedetto. Minnie lived her entire life in Columbus. Most of her early years were spent in the "Flytown" area of Columbus where she was revered as one of the "neighborhood" Moms. Her house was always open to the children of the neighborhood where fresh-baked cookies were always available. Her faith in God and love of family were the guideposts of her life. When her parents passed away at an early age, she kept her siblings together as a family unit. Family gatherings for the holidays were always at Minnie's house. This continued as her own family grew to seven children and over 40 grandchildren. She dearly loved these gatherings, now being run by the third generation, as she always preached about the importance of the family unit. She cherished her roles as Sister, Wife, Mother, Mother-in-Law, Grandma Minnie and Aunt Minnie. She is preceded in death by her husband Eliseo, son Leonard; grandson Leonard; granddaughters Diane Marie and Molly; brothers John and Joe; sisters Rose and Louise. Minnie is survived by sons Joseph(Jeannine), Frank(Dorothy), John(Clara), Jim(Carol), Lou(Rose) and daughter Pauline(Jim)Rushia; sisters Gertrude Bowen and Nora(Lane)Land; 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, special niece Carmel(Bob)Drayer and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
