Melida S. "Mamo" Barr passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday October 16, 2011 at Mount Carmel Medical Center. She was born June 1, 1923 in Guatemala City, Central America. Mamo was a sports fan, athlete, mother, grandmother and matriarch. She was an avid Buckeye fan, a gold medal winner in track and field at the Pan-American games in Barranquilla, Columbia where she represented her native country in 1938. She met her husband of 48 years during World War II when he was serving in the Army Air Corps. Married in 1948, they returned to his hometown of Columbus, Ohio. She became an American citizen and worked in accounting for Huntington, City National and Society banks. After leaving the banking business she worked 28 years for Lazarus and subsequently Macy's. She is preceded in death by her parents Victor Manuel Solorzano and Emilia Izzeppi de Solorzano and husband W. James Barr. Survived by her sister Emma Solorzano, nephew Ronald Curtis (Lorraine, Ronald, Oliver) of Guatemala, son, Joseph M. (Virginia) Barr, grandchild, Kristin (Christopher) Lundak of Lewis Center, son, Dr. James J. (Martha) Barr of Columbus, grandchildren, Doctors Patrick (Laurel) of Scottsdale, AZ, Jacqueline (Eric Harmon), Elizabeth Barr of Columbus, son, John F. (Marion) Barr and grandchildren, Melody and Jamie of Katy, TX. Friends may call WEDNESDAY October 19 2011 at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 1177 W. 5th Avenue, from 4:00-8:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM on THURSDAY October 20 at St. Andrew Catholic Church 1899 McCoy Road, Rev. Fr. Ty Tomson, Presider. FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE ASKED TO GATHER AT THE CHURCH FOR HER FUNERAL MASS.
