Mary Waite Capretta, 84, died Friday, April 7, 2006 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster, Ohio surrounded by her loving family. Born May 29, 1921 in Columbus, she was the daughter of Albert James Waite II and Mathilda Holz Waite. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Robert Joseph Capretta, Sr. She graduated from West High School, Class of 1939 and The Ohio State University, Class of 1975 with a degree in Education. She worked as a teacher for 20 years at St. Mary Magdalene Elementary School. A recent member of St Bernadette's Church in Lancaster, she spent most of her life devoted to her Catholic faith. A past member of St Stephen the Martyr, St Mary Magdalene and St Aloysius Churches, she was always an active member of her church community. As a member of the Liturgical Art Guild, she donated her time and artistic skill to the design and construction of the new St Cecilia Church and produced many pieces of artwork for other catholic churches in the area. She was an active member of the Diocesan Council for Catholic Women, St Stephen the Martyr Women’s Club, nominee for Catholic Woman Of The Year and believed strongly in the current movement to Keep Christ in Christmas.
She is survived by her daughters, Camille (John)Hess, Susan McClellan, Teresa (Jeffrey)Carpenter, and Martha (Craig)Smith and sons Robert (Carol)Capretta,Jr. and Philip (Susan)Capretta; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Sara, Tim, Ryan, Abigail, Emily, Jonathan, Holly, William, Nicholas, Christopher, Karen, Benjamin, Adam, Tiffany, Jacob, Jennifer, Spence, Rachael, Philip, Nick, Steve, Joe, Maureen, Natalie, Emily, Damien, Aaron, Stephanie, James, Tony, Robbie, Rebecca; sister Martha Waite Carpenter; sisters-in-law, Marvine Waite, Dorothy Bonner, Catherine Capretta, Rosemary Capretta, Agnes Beatty and Kathryn Elgin.
She is preceded in death by brother Albert James Waite III; son-in-law, Richard McClellan; brothers-in-law, Robert J Carpenter, C.Edward Capretta, Harold Capretta, Raymond Capretta, John Capretta, Bernard Bonner, Charles Cahill, Albert Beatty, and Richard
Elgin. Also preceding her in death are sisters-in-law; Gladys Capretta, Ruth Cahill and Rita Capretta.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, April 11, 2006 from 4 to 8 PM at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue. Prayer service will commence at 7 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 9:30am at St. Cecilia Church, 434 Norton Road. Fr. Craig Eilerman and Fr. Ray Larussa will concelebrate. Interment will follow at St Joseph Cemetery. A bereavement luncheon will be held at St Stephen the Martyr Church, 4031 Clime Road following the ceremonies.
