Obituary

Louis J. "Gigi" Viol, age 80, passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside on Friday, April 11, 2008 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was retired from Stedman Floor Company where he received many awards including the Builder's Exchange Craftsmanship Award for his work. He was a proud member of the Carpenters Union Local 200. A graduate of Central High School. He attended the Ohio State University. He served in the United States Navy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Costante and Luigia Viol and sister Rena Asmo, brothers-in-law Leo Stantilli and Eugene Crippa. A devoted husband, father and "Nonno" (Grandfather). He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Giovina (DeSantis) Viol, son, Louis Michael (Debra) Viol, daughters Gina Williams and Lisa (James) Hornback. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Natalie Hornback, Elizabeth Viol and John Luke Williams.
Louis is survived by sisters, Mary Crippa, Catherine Bisang and Anita Santilli; brothers-in-law, Dante Asmo and Dr. Louis (Rosanna) DeSantis Jr.; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Anthony) Bracaloni, Louise (Jack) Conie and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Louis was a member of St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He was a lifetime member of the Guild Athletic Club, where he was honored with the first Man of the Year Award in 1998. Recently, he was recognized for his works of charity, particularly for his work with the St. Francis Center in McArthur, Ohio. An avid Buckeye fan, he ushered OSU football games for 35 years. He enjoyed fishing, playing bocce and traveling with his family and friends, especially his trips to Italy. Friends may call MONDAY, April 14th, 2008 at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 W. 5th Avenue, from 5:00-8:00 PM with GAC service at 7:00 PM and Catholic Prayer Service at 7:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM on TUESDAY, April 15th 2008 at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 1420 Grandview Avenue, Msgr. John K. Cody, Presider. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery, 6440 South High Street, Lockbourne, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute in memory of Louis to the Trinity Catholic School Scholarship Fund, 1381 Ida Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43212.
