Obituary

Kahleen Kelly Smith Rozowsky, born on October 30, 1963, in Columbus, Ohio, passed away on April 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was preceded in death by her father, Spencer Kelly Smith; her brothers, Bryan Kelly Smith and Kyle Kovaleski; and her father-in-law, Leslie Rozowsky of Australia. Kahleen graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she was a cheerleader and band member, and was honored as part of the Homecoming Court her senior year. She later attended Florida State University and graduated from an Interior Design School in Fort Lauderdale. Kahleen built a successful career as a high-end interior designer in Palm Beach County, Florida. Known for her refined taste and creativity, she designed homes in prestigious communities throughout Palm Beach and the surrounding areas. Her work reflected her keen attention to detail, her strong sense of personal style, and her unusual ability to blend diverse features into a cohesive, beautifully finished masterpiece. Kahleen and Trevor traded sandy beaches for skyscrapers, and made their move to Rye, New York, where they created a nest for their family of five. Colin, Baron, and Julian graduated from Rye High School, and ventured to California, Upstate New York, and North Carolina for their undergraduate and master's degrees. During her years in Rye, Kahleen became deeply involved in the community, dedicating her time to charitable work, education, and service to others. She volunteered extensively, including many years in the Osborn Elementary School art room, serving as a representative for Heard in Rye, supporting senior citizens through SPRYE, hosting school fundraisers, serving on the board of the synagogue and contributing to its charitable programs. She also passionately contributed to her nieces' efforts to raise funds for cancer research and support her sister-in-law's cancer battle. Kahleen gave quietly and generously, never seeking recognition, simply because she cared. She was a lifelong learner and an avid lover of art, literature, and ideas. She excelled in her writing classes at Manhattan College and was a voracious reader of all genres of books. She participated in numerous adult education programs through the Scarsdale Adult School and studied encaustic art at the Rye Arts Center. She approached life with curiosity, open-mindedness, and a deep appreciation for learning and connection. Later in life, Kahleen fulfilled the dream of living on the water when she moved to North Carolina. There, she created a beautiful home that brought her family together. She loved boating and being surrounded by those she loved most, and she envisioned her home as a gathering place where family and friends could celebrate and make lasting memories. At the center of Kahleen's life was a simple but powerful emotion: LOVE. It was not just something she expressed; it was how she lived. As she embraced the next chapter of her spirituality, she chose to be known as Ahava "LOVE", daughter of peace. It goes without saying that love was her foundation. It guided how she cared for her family, showed up for her friends, and gave to her community. That spirit of LOVE became contagious, quietly shaping the lives of those around her and continuing to ripple outward beyond her. Above all, Kahleen was the heart of her family. She was nurturing, loving, and fiercely devoted to her children, and deeply in love with her husband, Trevor. She was happiest when her home was full, when laughter filled the rooms, and when the people she loved were together. She possessed the power to perfectly decorate and tailor her home to host special memories fit for any occasion; from birthdays to graduations, and everything in between. She excelled at nurturing environments to host unforgettable memories. She also had an extraordinary ability to see the good in everyone, meeting people with kindness, compassion, and understanding. Thoughtful, intelligent, patient, and generous, she carried herself with a quiet strength, grace, and poise that left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She is survived by her devoted husband, Ivor "Trevor" Rozowsky; and their three sons, Colin, Baron, and Julian, who were the center of her world; she is also survived by her mothers, Freda "Nonni" Smith, Susan "Mimi" Smith, and Mary "Bobba" Rozowsky. Kahleen shared an extraordinary bond with her siblings and is survived by, Jeff (Stacy) Smith, Spencer (Lisa) Smith II, Christopher Smith, Kurt Kovaleski, Neville (Penny) Rozowsky, and Shelly (Jack) Stoch; and is also survived by her cherished nieces and nephews, Martene, Simon (Gabriella), Jason (Lauren), Kathryn, Skyler, Ani, Mia, Mason, Kailee, Sophia, Ella, and Scarlett. To them, she was a second mother, and through them, her love and legacy will live on forever.

Kahleen was just as beautiful inside as her appearance on the outside. I remember her as a young sweet girl. She was so loving to her siblings, cousins, and her entire family. Although many miles seperated us as our life's took separate paths when we did meet again I was always greeted with a beautiful, warm and genuine smile. My condolences to her immediate family and our entire family as we grieve together over this terrible loss. RIH sweetheart love Uncle Bernie

Kahleen and I met when I was 2 months old and she was just a few days old. My mother told me she was dressed all in pink and was so beautiful. Well, her beauty never faded, inside and out. She was my first best friend and we always had such fun when she would visit from Florida. We loved Donny Osmond and saw him when he performed at The Ohio State Fair when we were 9 years old. She always laughed about making Uncle Bill put her on his shoulders so she could see better! We had many adventures at Nana’s house and also when visiting Mother Smith and playing in the bomb shelter. I am so grateful that we reconnected these last couple of years and shared many conversations about her illness, but also our families and special times we shared. In her last text to me just a month before she passed, she said she was praying to the Holy Spirit for complete healing and ended with “thank you for all the love. I love you”. My dear KK, I feel the same. I love you and will miss you 💗

Last time I was blessed to have seen Kahleen is at her father‘s funeral . Even in the midst of her grief and her illness, she radiated a sense of beauty that was deeper than just her appearance, a beauty that came from her soul. She asked about how I and my family were, always such a caring person. God‘s light truly shined through her. I’m so sorry for your loss ❤️ Sending love and prayers to all of you.

Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle Autumn rain. When you awaken in the mornings hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die. May God bless and comfort you all.

I am deeply heartbroken to hear of Kahleen’s passing. She was someone I looked up to in so many ways. I had the privilege of witnessing not only what an incredible mother she was, but also the kind of woman who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She carried herself with such grace and warmth, and her beauty—both inside and out—was truly unmistakable.
Kahleen inspired me more than she probably ever knew, and I will always be grateful for the time I spent with her and the family. Her impact on my life will stay with me forever. My heart goes out to Trevor and the entire family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A fun Kahleen memory Michele and Jim Audet share…
The date: New Year’s Eve December 31st, 1982.
The occasion: Jeff & Kahleen were hosting a New Year’s Eve party at Freida’s home in Boca. Jeff heard I (jim) was home on Christmas break and invited me to the party.
Background:
Jim went to HS with Kahleen and Jeff.
Michele lived in Texas yet was in Florida visiting her aunt and cousins during Christmas break. Michele’s cousin, Joe Brantley, was a friend of Jeff’s. Jeff invited Joe and Scott to the party. Joe insisted that a VERY RELUCTANT Michele join him.
Michele had no idea that it was a fancy party. So, when she walked in wearing jeans and cowboy boots and saw The VERY ELEGANT KAHLEEN and several of her friends wearing off the shoulder dresses, she wanted to leave immediately. Luckily she stayed long enough for me to meet her for the first time.
Forty three years and 2 kids and 2 grandkids later Michele and I are so thankful that the stars were aligned the night The Very Elegant Kahleen and Big brother Jeff threw the party.

I did not know Kathleen personally but I am friends with her mother, Freda Smith. I know that when Freda spoke of Kathleen it brought a big smile to her face and you could always tell she was the light in her mom's eyes. She spoke of Kathleen with tremendous pride, joy and love. I heard lots of stories of Kathleen's successes as an interior designer and devoted mother, so I can only imagine the pain Freda, the children and the extended family must feel after her passing. I, personally, will always remember her as a beautiful soul that brought a lifetine of love and joy to her mom, but as I read the other condolence messages it sounds like she shared that with everyone who knew her. What a great way to live your life!!! My thoughts and prayers go out to Freda and her family during this time of sadness. Forever your friend, Patti
