I was a classmate of Joe's at St. Charles, Class of '58. Since I live in California, I havd't seen Joe in a number of years. But, I'll always remember his fun-loving smile, grittiness on the football and that he was always a pleasure to be around. I know you will miss him, as we all will. Our prayers are with you and Joe...a good man!

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I find myself sending our deepest sympathy to the family of Joseph Martin. I can truthfully say that Joe was one of my fellow firefighters that I truly idolized and looked up to. Joe always had a firm and understandable attitude to not only his job as a firefighter, but to his fellow employees. Joe seemed to function the best when the tough issues were placed before him. Away from the firehouse, I can remember the fishing trips to Lake Erie and how Joe was always one of the first to want to go and always one of the last to reap the benefit from our catch. He always put others first. I look back now and will always remember my last visit to Columbus in November of 2005 and how Joe, as well as many others, took precious time out of his busy schedule to be able to sit down to a wonderful dinner with my wife and I as well as other fellow firefithers. I am sure Joe will not only be missed by his family, but all who have ever had the priviledge to have worked with him, played with him or just associated through business contact. To Joe's family, our prayers are with you and please be assured that our grief is only second to your own. May God bless each and everyone of you. With heavy heart I will sign off by saying "Thanks Joe for all you ever taught me or did for me. You are truly second to none. I love you and will miss you beyond belief."

Dear Tony,
I just got done viewing your dad's Celebration on Life Video and it is impossible for me to express how deeply sadden I am for your loss. I was always very fond of Joe and I will never forget his incredible work ethic, his drive to get things done and most of all that he was always smiling. I know that he was your dad, your buddy and your friend. I will also never forgot the camaraderie you and your dad had when you were together working or goofing off. Please know that he will always be in my thoughts. He truely was a "Top Gun".
With all my sympathy,
Anthony T.

My husband and I met Joe about eight years ago. We truely enjoyed his friendship. He really amazed me everytime I saw him. He was like the energizer bunny that never would stop but kept on going. He appeared to enjoy working on projects, and when he did it was always with a smile on his face. We will miss him very much. May God Bless Him.

I find it difficult to express in words my sorrow at the loss of my friend, and good fishing partner, Joe Martin. The first year Joe came to Canada was to advise me about the condition of the cabin and the dock, since I was buying out my partner. There was not anyuthing around the cabin Joe did not know how to fix in a hurry. Since I asked him to come on short notice, I furnished all the fishing gear he would need. Well, the next year Joe had all his own equipment, just like mine. He loved running the boat, and in a short time he could handle it like it was second nature to him. The same four of us went each year, and Joe was always my partner. Some times Joe and I would win, and some times we would lose, but all the time we had lots of fun. His indelible marks on the cabin and his fishing friends will be there for all time.
