Obituary
Frederick J. Simon of Columbus, Ohio passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009. A man of impeccable integrity, honor and service to others, he was born December 28, 1928. Freddie graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School and then served two years in the Army. Returning to Columbus, he earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Capital University. A dedicated Ohio public servant, Freddie served in the Commerce and Highway Departments before starting his private law practice. He was a Trustee for the Franklin County Veteran’s Memorial for 20 years and was a member of many civic, charitable, professional and fraternal organizations, his favorite being the Guild Athletic Club. Fred was an avid and biased Buckeye fan and never missed an Ohio State Michigan football game since 1958, home or away! Fred is preceded in death by parents George and Madeline Simon, sister Malki and his six brothers: George, Joseph, Thomas, Charles, Paul and Donald. Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Marie Margaret "Peggy", adoring daughters Karen (Wojta) and Lauren (Lee), together with loving grandchildren Sarah, Travis and Amanda Wojta and Zachary Lee. Also survived by sisters-in-law; Mary Simon, Marion Simon, Ali Simon, Yvonne (Charles) Perotti and Theresa Fares along with many nieces and nephews. I was greatly saddened by the news of Fred's passing. In 33 years of employment with the City of Columbus, I can honestly say he is one of most honorable and pleasant individuals I have ever met. It was a good day when I had a chance to met with Fred. A true gentleman and a complete professional in every way; the family can be proud of his legacy. My sincere condolences to the all.

I can’t tell you how sorry I am to hear the news. What a wonderful, funny, joyful and caring man he was! Even years after my dad died, on those rare occasions that I saw Mr. Simon I’d automatically reach for him with a big hug and can’t imagine doing any less – he’s just always been the kind of person that deserves a big hug, in my opinion!
I love thinking about all the laughter shared by Dad and Mr. Simon. And I’ve no doubt they’re having a grand reunion now!
I’m sorry I can’t be there in person but I’ll be thinking of all of you and will say a special prayer for Mr. Simon on Saturday morning. Much love to you and your family!

I am very saddened to hear about Fred's passing. I was just thinking of him about two weeks ago and was wondering how he had been doing. Fred was an important investor in land deals we did, but most importantly, he was my friend. I was young back then, no more than early 20's. One thing was always certain, Fred did what was right. You never had to think twice about it. He could always be trusted. Something rare in today's society.
He will be missed greatly. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time.

Fred was a favorite cousin, yes. But more than that, he was like a dear uncle or big brother, always ready to help in any way he could. The words on this condolence page and quotes in the newspaper begin to capture his essence to those of us fortunate to have known him: kind, caring, thoughtful, funny, fun, joyful, intelligent, warm. Everyone loved him and loved to be around him. He was one in a million. I will miss his wonderful smile, huge heart, and big bear hugs. I send you deepest sympathy, love and prayers.

Hello Simon family. Condolences on Fred's passing. I read his obit today in the Dispatch, and wondered if he might have attended Aquinas High School with my father, James N. Reau. As I checked a yearbook page I have of the 1946 yearbook,(it's a photo of the class of '46 when they were freshman in 1942) sure enough Fred is seated 2 rows behind my father. So they certainly must have known each other all those years ago. My dad passed away in 1966 at age 37, from leukemia. Again, sincerest condolences to your family. Richard Reau

I am sorry I missed Mr. Simon's funeral. I was at Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday for a funeral of a close friend, and did not return to Columbus until Friday midnight. While I knew Fred had passed earlier in the week, the arrangements had not yet been publicized when I left town. He was a wonderful man, and Fred and Peg are still very special to the Eldon Greer family. Our thoughts are with all of you.
