Obituary

Frank Garbuglio, age 82, passed away peacefully into his Heavenly home on August 25, 2013, surrounded by family. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, to Domenico and Mary (Cecketti) Garbuglio, from Giulianova, Italy. Frank grew up in the Italian neighborhood known as “St. Claire,” where he was affectionately known as “Cardboard.” His favorite memories were of caddying at Scioto Country Club, playing pool at Santilli’s Pool Hall, playing cards with the guys at the GAC (Guild Athletic Club) for which he was a member, watching his favorite teams: Buckeyes, Browns and Yankee’s and spending time with family. It was his love of golf that led to Frank becoming a charter member of the American Italian Golf Association, which later purchased The Riveria Country Club. Often times you could find him enjoying a round of golf with friends and family. In 1950 Frank served seven years in the Ohio National Guard, 37th Division, 166 Artillery. He retired after a 50 year career in excavating working on numerous developments in Central Ohio. Preceded in death by his parents, Domenico and Mary Garbuglio; sister, Roseann DeVictor; brother-in-law, Robert DeVictor; brother-in-law Joseph Martina; brother- in-law, Jerry Davanzo; sister-in-law, Lee McKown; mother-in-law, Geneva Morrow. Survived by loving wife Betty, of 34 years; sons, Dominic (Cynthia), Frank, and Joseph (Debi) Garbuglio; grandchildren, Joseph and Ashley Garbuglio; sisters, Janette Martina, Anna Marie (Frank) Sugar and Linda (Mike) Duffey; sister-in-law, Ruth Davanzo and brother-in-law, Daniel McKown; and many nieces, nephews and friends. I cannot tell you how sorry I am about the passing of your beloved Frankie. I am so happy I got to see him in April. We had such a good time. You both have always made me feel so welcome in your home. He is in a better home now. I will try and come out by year end. Hang in there sweet lady. Love, Patsy

Hey Dominic, just reading about your dad made me feel he was my kind of guy. Seemed to love sports and life! He must have been a tremendous man to be around. I can see you in what I read of him.

Back in the 70's I had the opportunity to work w/ Frank while building services to the new Muirfield. He was great to work with and we enjoyed conversations about golf and sports. Through the years we would occasionally see each other and reminice a bit and of course talk sports. He was a good person to work with. My condolences to your family at this time.
