Obituary

Elvira Splendora Pica, born February 20, 1918 in Dennison, Ohio and went to the Lord on May 19, 2012 peacefully at Kobacker House after a long stay at Mayfair Village. Vera was best known as the owner of Geno's Pizza in North Linden for over 45 years. She was often called the "Pizza Queen of Columbus" and her recipe received rave reviews from both the Columbus Dispatch and
the national pizza magazines. She was forced into retirement at age 86 due to her battle with Parkinson's Disease. However, she never complained about the disease. Her pride was keeping up the most beautiful yard on Oakland Park Avenue. Vera was known as the world's hardest working women and loved by everyone who knew her. She was a long time parishioner and neighbor of St. James The Less Catholic Church and volunteered for years
at St. Francis DeSales High School bingo. Her life was devoted to her children and grandchildren, work, faith and meals with her friends and family at her large dinner table located in her basement kitchen. Her first words to anyone who came to her home were always "Are You Hungry?" She was a remarkable women who touched the lives of both young and old. Vera is preceded in death by her parents; Filomena and Giovanni Taffa, her sister Rose (Albert) Cautela and her beloved daughter Marina Davis. My deepest sympathy to all of you. Vera was a great lady - truly "Everyone's Mom". Thank you, Vera for all the years of tireless dedication to St. James and DeSales, and for some of the most delicious pizzas and Italian dinners I have ever tasted! And thank you for all the meals you served to me and my dad at Geno's after my own mother's passing, all those years ago. Thank you, Vera, especially, for sharing your beautiful daughter Marina with all of us. Gone far too soon from this world, she inspired all of us to do our very best in school and in life. God bless. Go in Peace. We will never forget you!

Our Dear Good Friends: "Vera" as we all knew her, was an amazing classy woman, and a wonderful friend to me and my late husband "Bing," and the Currens Family. While visiting with her just 2 weeks ago at Mayfair Nursing Facility, she still looked elegant with her red blanket embracing her tiny frame and keeping her very warm indoors on a very warm evening outdoors. She asked if her hair looked OK and I said "You Look Beautiful" Vera was a tremendous cook and Pizza, Salad & Pasta the specialties. So many fond and loving memories of a wonderful, dedicated, hard-working, fun and loving lady and I could go on and on. Many Happy times we had not only at Geno's, but at our good neighbor in Forest Park East, Vera's beautiful daughter the late Marina Davis......Sincere Sympathy and Prayers to steadfast Kevin & Craig, Marisa & David, Gary, Dominic and all of Vera's family. She will be missed!! Our Loss and Heaven's Gain. Love, Your Friend, Ruthie and Family
