I was told this day would come, but I never wanted to believe that my work here would one day be done. Recently, I received a call—an offer I couldn’t refuse—for an appointment from which I won’t be returning. This final journey comes with a generous sign-on bonus: a joyful reunion in heaven with beloved family and friends I haven’t seen in a very long time. I truly loved my life. Everything I achieved was exactly what I had hoped for. I cherished my career, my friends, my family, and the many dogs who taught me the meaning of unconditional love. I lived a full and vibrant life as a realtor, entrepreneur, and business owner, while also being a devoted wife, mother, and friend. Over my 38-year career in real estate, I built lasting relationships with colleagues and loyal clients, many of whom became lifelong friends. I’m deeply grateful for their trust, their repeat business, and the referrals that helped me grow. My passion was helping people find their homes, and I approached every transaction with heart and dedication. As a proud member of RE/MAX Premier Choice, I was affiliated with the Columbus Board of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, the Northwest Area Realtors, and the RE/MAX Association. I was honored to be a multimillion-dollar producer with the Columbus Board of Realtors and received many awards throughout my career. Yet, the friendships I formed were the greatest reward.
My love for animals led me to foster and volunteer at several local shelters and rescues. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have at least five dogs, three of my own and two fosters. Caring for rescue dogs was one of the most fulfilling parts of my life. I was actively involved in numerous organizations, including the St. Martha Giving Circle Catholic Foundation, St. Andrew Church Parish, and various animal welfare groups. Whether leading or chairing events, preparing meals for a friend’s funeral, or helping someone transition home from the hospital, I lived my life with faith, humility, and grace. I was a member of St. Andrew’s Church, Scioto Country Club, and the Abruzzi Club. I proudly served on several boards and was a pioneer in advocating for the Puppy mill Bill in Ohio. Throughout my life, I stood up for the homeless and for animals in need. I was proud of my Italian heritage. I attended St. Agatha Grade School, graduated from Upper Arlington High School, and studied at The Ohio State University.
In addition to my love for real estate, animals, and cooking, I found joy in gardening. Every year, I grew enough food to share with friends and neighbors—who affectionately called me “the serious gardener.” Entertaining and cooking were my passions. My kitchen was the heart of my home, where family and friends gathered for meals, laughter, and memories. I believed in the importance of sitting together at the table, always preparing enough food to feed an army—and sending guests home with leftovers. I was an advocate for all people and a collaborator who brought others together to achieve common goals. So, I leave you with this thought: “Enjoy the little things in life and cherish every moment. Romanticize your life. Do whatever makes you happy, and don’t let anyone take the joy of life away from you.” I am survived by my son, Scott Rhyan, and my sister, Mary Louise Casanta. I am preceded in death by my beloved husband of 38 years, Joseph H. Banks, MD; my parents, Frank and Mary (DiPaolo) Casanta; and my brother, Frank Casanta. I leave behind many loving relatives, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
