I e-mailed Molly in Virginia and told her to e-mail Linda Strapp in case she hasn't heard.

My thoughts on what Charles W. Swartz III exemplified as he walked/talked his way through life toward Heaven’s Gate:
Every achievement was once impossible. If there were no problems, there would be no opportunities. It does not cost anything to be nice. If you smile at people, they will almost always smile back. The important thing is not what others think about you but what you think of yourself. In every face-to-face encounter, regardless of how brief, you leave a part of yourself behind. Keep your promises no matter what. Education, experience, and memories are three things that no one can take away from you. The simple things in life are often the most satisfying. Children and pets are the best teachers of creativity, persistence and unconditional love. You should not expect life’s best if you are not giving it your very best. You should never underestimate the potential and power of the human spirit. Successful living must be practiced daily…Anonymous
As each new day begins, I reflect and remember the tallest self-competitive man I have ever known…with a great smile and wonderful sense of humor (dry wit). “CHUCKIE loved to….fish at the hottest hour of the day, play (“to win’) basketball/golf, wear red (99% of the time) and live life to the fullest. Even now, he is just a heartbeat away. Wow! What a legacy. What a gift to the world and anyone who received even one second of his time. I will always honor his presence in my life.

I have been fortunate to have known Chuck since the late 1970's when I started working for the State of Ohio Department of Taxation. Chuck approached life and his career with enthusiasm, honesty, dedication, humor loyalty and exemplary skill. He was a superb manager who always brought out the best in his coworkers. As my supervisor and my friend, Chuck taught me and guided me throughout my career with the Department. His kindness, humor and willingness to help others inspired all of us every day. Chuck was a key member of the most talented and dedicated management team in the Department, the staff of the District Offices, and always "stepped up" without being asked. He was fiercely loyal to his family and his coworkers and selflessly worked for the benefit of all. I shall always remember his smile and his kindness, as well as his wry sense of humor. He made all of us better people through his actions. At work, his legacy lives on through those that he trained, befriended and guided and in life, his legacy lives on through his family and friends. I am a better man for having known Chuck. My prayers are with his family and I hope that their sadness is tempered by understanding the great positive impact that Chuck had on all of us who knew and loved him. I shall miss him greatly and remember him fondly. The world is a little darker without the light Chuck provided.

I am so sorry to hear of the death of your dad and husband. What a great guy! He was so dedicated to you and to Watterson. How can I forget those cold and wet Saturdays and/or Tuesdays at track meets-Peggy and Chuck always there supporting the kids whether they were first, last or somewhere in between. And how many games did Chuck film? Countless. And he did it because he loved it.
He always called me Mr. Baker. I suppose a sign of respect that he had for teachers and coaches. Believe me the respect was mutual. He will be missed and his passing leaves a void in your lives and in the lives of all whom he touched.
Thanks chuck for all you have done to make the world a better place.

I am deeply sorry for the loss of your beloved Chuck. I worked with Chuck for several years at the Tax department before his retirement. He was always a delight to work with! He was that very special kind of team player who always wanted every member of the team to win. His loss is deeply felt and great indeed.
