Obituary

Bette Mae Ghidotti of Upper Arlington, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at the age of 74 with her family by her side. She was born on August 14, 1933 on the south side of Chicago, Illinois and was the only child of Gordon and Julia Little, both of whom predeceased her. Bette leaves her husband Edward Leo Ghidotti after 52 years of marriage. Ed was an extremely devoted husband and lovingly stood by her side especially during her battle with ovarian cancer. Bette was a graduate of the nursing program at South Chicago Community Hospital and served as a registered nurse for several years before moving with her family to Columbus, Ohio in 1965. In her early years in Columbus, she worked as a registered nurse for Dr. Good of Clintonville and thereafter for Hooper Holmes performing insurance pre-screening physicals. What was most important to Bette during her life was her family. She was a strong and unwavering wife, mother, grandmother "Nanny" and friend to her four children and nine grandchildren. Bette will be lovingly remembered by her four children: Marc (Kristi), Denise, Janise, and Paul (Kathie), all of whom reside in Central Ohio. Bette loved her nine grandchildren very much and was an active part of all of their lives. They are: Ashley, Kristina, Matthew, Weston, Adriane, Will, Alex, Lauren, and Claire. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Bruno Ghidotti of Upper Arlington, Ohio (formerly, Chicago, Illinois) and her cousins John Carlson of Placentia, California and Dave Carlson of Berryville, Arkansas. Bette loved sports and was an active participant of many sports including tennis, swimming, and golf. She could regularly be found poolside or courtside at the Swim and Racquet Club in Upper Arlington, Ohio or at Ed and Bette's vacation home in Siesta Key, Florida. Bette recently received recognition as an Honored Nominee for the 2006 Grandparent of the Year award at Miami University - where her oldest granddaughter currently attends. Bette was a great friend to many and always had a positive outlook on life. A special thanks to the prayer group at St. Timothy's Church and the many family friends that kept Bette in their hearts and prayers. Friends may call FRIDAY, January 18, 2008 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the JOHN QUINT FUNERAL HOME, 1177 W. 5TH AVENUE. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, SATURDAY, January 19, 2008 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1070 Thomas Lane, Columbus, Ohio, 43220, Msgr. John G. Johnson, Presider and Msgr. Paul P. Enke, Concelebrant. FRIENDS ARE ASKED TO MEET AT CHURCH. PRIVATE FAMILY ENTOMBMENT at Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum, Lewis Center, Ohio. After being diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer in October 1999, Bette continued to live life to the fullest spending time between medical treatments with her active family while never leading on to the pain she was enduring. She was always "there" for her family no matter how difficult her battle with the illness became. During her battle, Bette was cared for by Dr. J. Bell (Riverside Methodist Hospital) and Dr. L. Copeland (James Cancer Center at The Ohio State University). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in the name of Bette Ghidotti to either: the Riverside Oncology Services Fund, c/o OhioHealth, 180 East Broad Street, 31st Floor, Columbus, Ohio, 43215; or Copeland Professorship in Gynecologic Oncology, Fund #641444, OSU Medical Center Development, P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, Ohio 43218-3112. Condolences may be sent via www.johnquint.com. In Bette's final days on earth, Bette wrote in her diary, "I fought a valiant battle and one day, God-willing, research will win and ovarian cancer won't 'whisper' anymore".

Bette was clearly a special person. It was a privilege for me to be one of her physicians. She definitely was strong willed and expressed her autonomy very well and appropriately. I am certain she was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered fondly.
Peace be with you and your family as you celebrate her life. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am sorry I cannot be with your family at this time of sorrow. But the miles between us does not
lessen the grief that I feel for the loss of Bette.
Although we all now experience the deep pain of this loss, let our hearts find comfort in knowing her's has, at last, ended. My prayers are with you and my beloved friend Bette.
