Obituary

Albert Corna, age 89, passed away at home amongst his family on Saturday, December 8, 2012. Al was born on April 23, 1923, to the late Giuseppe and Sofia Corna, Italian immigrants to the United States. Al graduated from Central High School and served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater until the end of World War II. After the war, Al worked as a stone mason, a trade he learned from his father. In 1956, Al and his lifelong friend, Joe DiCesare, started a partnership, Corna & DiCesare Builders, a firm that gained a reputation for quality. Al was a member of the American-Italian Golf Association, The Agonis Club, Buckeye Boosters and Riviera Country Club. Al enjoyed golf and playing cards, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family and friends. Al was a gentle, kind and loving man, and all who knew him, loved him. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Anne (Amicon); devoted brother, Richard (Nadine); sons, Mark, Michael and Joe (Kyle); grandchildren, Josh (Amy), Sophia (Scott Horowitz), Colin and Bridget; great-grandchildren, Julia, Quinn and Zachary. The family thanks Al’s lifelong friend, Leo Guglielmi, for visiting every day throughout Al’s illness. Al's family will receive friends Thursday, December 13, 2012, from 4-8 p.m. at THE JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICE, 1177 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus, with a Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church, 720 Hamlet Street at Lincoln, with the Rev. Fr. William A. Metzger as the Presider. Burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in Al's name either to The Epilepsy Foundation of Central Ohio, 4700 Lakehurst Ct., Suite 225, Dublin, OH 43016 or to the Casey Mentel Golf Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Charles Preparatory School, 2010 E. I had the opportunity of working with Al for almost 15 years as one of his outside CPA's. Corna & DiCesare was one of the first clients this young accountant went and worked on "all alone". Al was such a wonderful, patient client, who was willing to take time to teach me; about his company and about the realities of how a young accountant learns to relate to clients. He was one of the classiest and decent men I have known. He is from a bygone era where it was practical to practice a business philosophy of treating yours subs well, valuing your employees to the point of extended family, and believing that success would come (and did come) by satisfying your customers. He was a great man and I know the family takes great comfort in that life well-lived.
