Obituary

William "Bill" Anthony Schilder, also known and loved as "Irish Willy", was born in Chillicothe, Ohio, on February 4, 1937, to William H. Schilder and Esther Veronica Schilder and passed on Thursday, July 15, 2021. He grew up in Chillicothe with his three siblings, Theresa, Jane, and Jim. Bill was a ferocious sports lover and a lifelong Notre Dame fan, starting when his parents took him to South Bend in his childhood. He was a dedicated father to his eight beautiful children, whom he had with his first wife Maryann: Erin, Eric, Greg, Timothy, Suzanne, Phillip, Amy, and Allison. Bill instilled his passion for sports, teamwork, and perseverance in all his children. He was always there to coach their sports teams and support them in any competition, cheering them in victory and offering
a shoulder to cry on in defeat. He gave this gift to the broader world as "Irish Willy", the most loyal cheerleader Notre Dame ever had. Bill was also a born salesman, someone who naturally loved talking with people, learning about them, learning about everything, and he could sell just about anything to anyone. Bill left the world peacefully on Thursday, July 15, 2021, surrounded by his children and,
of course, listening to the Notre Dame fight song. He is survived by all eight of his children, his first wife Maryann, and his siblings Jane and Jim. He has gone on to join his wife Sonia, his mother and father, and his sister Theresa, and his family can feel all their Irish eyes smiling down upon them.
William Schilder's service will be held in Chillicothe, Ohio, on Wednesday, July 21, at St. Mary's Church at 11:00 a.m. This will be followed by a graveside service at St. Margaret's cemetery. Afterward, his family and loved ones will be hosting a celebration of life at Jerry's Pizza West in Chillicothe. Everyone who knew Bill knows that he loved three things above all: family, Notre Dame sports, and pizza. Please join us at Jerry's to celebrate this all-time great father, husband, grandfather, brother, and Irish cheerleader. Bill was one of a kind and there will never be another like him, but
his spirit lives in his family and if there's one thing we can say for sure, it's that he epitomized the "Fighting Irish" spirit. "It's game day. That's what it's all about".
