Obituary

Josephine ("Jo") Eve Buzzelli Gallucci, 89, passed away on Sunday, July 11 at her home in Friendship Village of Dublin Ohio, surrounded by her family and friends. The daughter of Italian immigrants from Castel di Sangro, Italy, she was born March 26, 1932, in Columbus, Ohio. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy High School and worked briefly as a telephone operator before she met and married John, her husband of 59 years. Her high school classmate and future sister-in-law, Rita Branco, set Jo (with the nickname "Buzzi") up on a blind date with her brother, John. Jo and John were married on June 14, 1952 and started a family the following year. Jo lovingly raised her children, supporting them through all their academic, musical, artistic and sporting activities. Over the years, she enjoyed singing (she was a long-time member of the St. Andrew's Choir), was an avid card player, skated and roller bladed well into her 60s, participated in a bowling league for many years, and was a wonderful gardener. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Carl Gallucci Jr.; her parents, John and Concetta (Sconciafurno) Buzzelli; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary (Enio) Bernardo, Levia (Stanley) Crognale, Norma (George) Antonelli and Olga (Bill) Mathias; brother, Geno; and brothers-in-law, Alfred Gallucci and Anthony Branco; and son-in-law, Les Agee. She is survived by her children, John III (Gretchen) Gallucci, Anita (Tom McGregor) Gallucci, Vicky (Ken) Shuller, Joseph (Kristi) Gallucci, and James (Mary Lou) Gallucci; grandchildren, Daniel and Kristin (Jon Lattier) Agee; John (Sarah) Gallucci IV, Maria (Matt Peters) Gallucci, and Neal (Stephanie) Gallucci, Liana McGregor, Michael and Laura Gallucci, Camden and Sophie Gallucci; and great grandchildren, Evan and Keller Gallucci, John Gallucci V and Joshua Gallucci, Matty Peters, and Miles Lattier. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Ellen Buzzelli, Rita Branco, and Charlene Gallucci; cousin, Eliana Caradonna; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Friends may call THURSDAY, July 15, 2021, at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 W. 5th Avenue, from 5-8 pm. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am on FRIDAY, July 16 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1899 McCoy Road. FRIENDS ARE ASKED TO GATHER AT THE CHURCH FOR HER FUNERAL MASS. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 6440 S. High Street, Lockbourne, Ohio. The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at Capital City Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Capital City Hospice. Condolences may be sent via www.johnquint.com.

Jo and her late husband John were dear friends, which we loved exchanging regular visits with, both in Florida and Ohio.

We played a lot of Golf, the four of us, family against family - the Riviera Italian Golf Club in Dublin was still open back then. Galina and I remember Jo making a hole-in-one, while smiling saying
"That's because I don't care."

Much to our surprise with John, Jo and Galina were playing cards together while we were playing bridge in the Bridge Club. Their favorite game was Gin Rummy.

There was not a dull moment while being together, whether playing, or riding elephants in Thailand, or sipping margaritas in Shangri-La in Singapore, or riding fast-boats in Phuket, or golfing in Indonesia.

Jo will be missed dearly, as her husband John was years ago ...

Rest in peace, Jo:

My deepest sympathies at the loss of your dear Jo.

I moved into Friendship Village Dublin three years ago where I was lucky enough to be welcomed into the "Riverstone Girls." Sitting arounds a big dinner table with Jo was always an uproarious affair.

Then came CO-VID--a year of lost time. what a waste for all, especially for all of you.

But when we were finally released from our cages the fun resumed. Jo helped me learn how to play Euchre, not very well, but she did her best. She was so proud of Sophie when she came to play the flute with the OSU woodwinds, as well as with her grandson when he came through Dublin to sing with his a cappella group from Miami. I think everyone at FVD enjoyed those evenings almost as much as Jo did.

Even towards the end of her life I'd see Jo down in the lobby, dressed and made up elegantly. I'd say, "Jo, you look beautiful! How are you feeling?" She would chuckle and reply in that "Jo" way, "Oh, terrible."

I will miss her dearly,
and will pray that God comforts you in the days.
