Mary Antoinette (Pannella) Buttress, 96, passed away on February 19, 2021. She was born on September 9, 1924 in Grandview Heights, Ohio to Cuono and Mary Pannella. In addition to her parents Mary is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 56 years, Joseph, her sister and brother-in-law Anne and Peter Salemi, her sister Rita Melaragno, her brothers-in-law George, Naz (Theresa), Mitch (Margaret), Aneese Buttress and sisters-in-law Betty Buttress and Rose (Ben) Boerger. Mary's greatest pride and joy was the family that she and Joe built together. Survivors include her loving children, Phil and Patti Buttress, Sue and Gary Bauchmoyer, Marybeth and Phil Callaghan and Anne and Bill Heinmiller. She was very proud of her grandchildren Dan (Heather) Buttress and Patrick Buttress, Kaitlin (Alex) Ditty, Bryan (Grace) Bauchmoyer and Rylie Bauchmoyer, Leah, Cole and Will Callaghan, Tim (Jenn) Heinmiller, Molly (Christian Dardon) Heinmiller and Andrew Heinmiller. Mary basked in the joy of being a great grandmother to Ellis Buttress and was looking forward to the birth of her second great grandson in May. In addition, Mary is survived by her brothers Clem (Ginny) Pannella and Bob (Jeanne) Pannella, brother-in-law Ernie Melaragno and sister-in-law Smaya Buttress as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Before starting her family, Mary worked for the Farm Bureau as an executive secretary and enjoyed traveling the country with her girlfriends. She and Joe were pillars of St. Christopher Parish for decades. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith and she lived it through her many volunteer efforts. The family wishes to thank the staff of Westminster Thurber, The Forum and Vitas Hospice and all others who cared for her so lovingly. Mary and her beloved Joe were amazing people! They came every Tuesday in the River Chapel for evening prayer! They both were so kind and so ever encouraging to me and others!
May His angels lead her to Joe and our Almighty Savior and King!

In met Mary nearly two years ago at the Forum . I am a volunteer for Vitas Hospice, and my dog Abby and I would visit Mary every week. She was a hoot and I still smile when I think of her saying she never had a dog, never wanted one, and yet, She became more and more protective of Abby....directing residents and staff to watch out for the dog when anyone came near. She loved giving Abby treats and petting her. I gave her a small picture of Abby for Christmas and I hope when she looked at it, she smiled. I send you all my prayers.

Mary and less recently Joe used to sit right behind us at mass. She was always grandmotherly sweet to our kids who liked to chat with her. Praying for your entrance to heaven, not that it will take too many prayers! Vivat Jesus, Matthew Tangeman

I was so sad to hear of your Mom's passing. She was such a sweet and funny lady! I'm sure she is smiling and laughing with your Dad and mine up in heaven now. Your families are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mary and Joe were among the founding members, part of the original bedrock, of St. Christopher Parish, and among the most respected throughout their lives. Their devotion and acts of kindness were endless. May perpetual light shine upon them.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mary and your dad were such kind and gentle people. My dearest friend, Melba Miller, loved them both. Melba died on August 9, 2020. I'm sure she was right there to welcome your mom to Paradise. What a reunion they must be having. Please take care, and know that your mom (and Dad) are happy and at peace.
