Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” O. Young, age 88, of Upper Arlington, went to be with the Lord her Savior on Sunday, September 20, 2015.
Betty was born in Ford City, PA, to Jacob and Sophia Ortmann. She graduated from Ford City High School and worked as an office manager for a Kittanning company until she married James R. Young in 1950. They were happily married for 44 years until he passed on in June of 1994. She was a longtime loyal parishioner of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church for 52 years and found much joy in supporting the church’s many endeavors. She was actively involved in the Altar and Rosary Society, countless school and church functions, and events with Vintage Victorians. Betty enjoyed the friendship of many wonderful neighbors and participated in numerous Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve family parties. She acquired the endearing nickname of “Iddy the Committee” for her ability to organize and plan memorable events. She was an avid Buckeye fan and attended OSU football games since 1964. For the last 40 years, Betty was a founding owner and corporate officer of the family business, Motorkars Inc., located at 1020 King Avenue. Betty is preceded in death by husband James R. Young; son James M. Young; brothers, Fred, Ben, Ed, and Jake; sisters, Marge, Anna, and Tootie. She is survived by children, William J. (Mary) Young, Michael J. (Lorie) Young, Betty (Dan) Young, and Barbara (Rich) Byrnes; daughter-in-law, Alfreda (Presutti) Young; grandchildren, Desiree (Kurtis) Hickey, Jimmy (Kathy), Sonny (Angela), Jody (Steve), Jennifer (Bennett), Brian (Beth), Amanda, and RJ; and eight great grandchildren; brother, William (Terri) Ortmann and sister, Mary Lou Valenti. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, September 24, 2015, from 4-7 p.m., at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue (with a Prayer Service at 6:45 p.m.). Family and friends are asked to gather for her funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 25, 2015, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 1559 Roxbury Road (Marble Cliff), with Reverend Monsignor Romano Ciotola, presiding. Entombment to follow, Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s memory to Esperança (1911 West Earll Drive, Phoenix, Arizona 85015) or the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, Central Ohio Chapter (67 High Street, Suite 119, Worthington, Ohio, 43085). I know from working with Betty that Mrs. Young raised at least one of her children to be a kind, hard-working and insightful person. That is quite an accomplishment. I am sorry to hear that she is gone.
