Joseph K. Colak, was born March 4, 1920, in Croatia, Yugoslavia to the late Theodore and Antonia Colak. He died on Friday, March 21, 2014, in Columbus. Joseph is survived by his loving wife Rosemary (Merendo) Colak and they were married for 38 years; he is also survived by his sons, Anthony (Joanie) Colak and James (Linda) Cerminara; and grandchildren, Joseph and Natalie Colak. Also survived by brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Rosalyn DiSabato and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Lowman. Joseph also had many loving DiSabato and Lowman nieces and nephews. Joe was a graduate of Central High School class of 1938 and a member of the Central High School city league basketball championship team. Joe was an avid golfer well into his 90's. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic church and worked the Italian Festival for the past 25 years and was the honoree at the 2012 festival. He also was a member of the Fly Town Club, Guild Athletic Club and the St Anthony Croatian Lodge. Joe was a proud Navy Veteran (WWII) and participated in the Air Flight program to Washington. He retired from the Post Office after 30 years of service. He is preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Walter. A special thanks to the loving care of the nurse's and doctor's at Riverside Hospital and Kobacker House. Joe was also blessed to have many loving and caring neighbors. Joe's family will receive friends on Monday, March 24, 2014 from 4-7 p.m., at THE JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus, with GAC and Flytown Services at 6:30 p.m., and concluding visitation with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church, 720 Hamlet Street, Columbus (Italian Village). Burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne, Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions in Joe's honor made to the St John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church Renovation Fund, 720 Hamlet St., Columbus (43215).
