Josephine "Jo" Comtess, passed away on Thursday February 19, 2015, at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio. She is survived by her three loving children, Susan Karrington Comtess and Gregg (Betsy) Comtess of Columbus, and Janie (Chuck) Walsh of Lake Forest, Ill.; also survived by her treasured grandchildren, Katie, Faith and Korey; many loving cousins, nieces and nephews; and her life-long best friend, Bette Baumgardner. Born on February 11, 1923, in Johnstown, Penn., Josephine moved to Columbus in 1941. She was a graduate of Franklin University and her first career was at the "Columbus Dispatch" followed by a career at the Lazarus Department Store. In 1950 she married John Comtess (founding executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Columbus) and remained united in marriage for 47-years, until his death in 1997. Jo dedicated her life to her family, grandchildren and many dear friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling the world. She spent much time in Lake Forest, Ill., where her daughter, Janie and family, reside. Jo's unfettered zest for life took her to many places and on many adventures. Her family will receive friends on Monday, February 23, 2015 from 5-8 p.m., at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus. Her funeral is 1:00 p.m., Tuesday at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel (within the grounds of Resurrection Cemetery), 9571 N. High Street, Lewis Center, with entombment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either OhioHealth (Kobacker House), PO Box 600001, Columbus (43272) or to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus, 115 S. Gift St., Columbus (43215). We are so sorry to lose a special loved member of our Dad's family. Fee always kept in touch with us and made sure that we knew that she cared about all of us. We loved her joy and enthusiam and zest for life. We are sure that she is having a beautiful reunion with all the loved ones who have gone before her. Rest in Peace, Dear Fee. Love, Don, Tom and John Cammerata and families.

I did not know Jo well, but for the times we spent together I know that she loved life and her children. May she rest in peace knowing she is in God's hands.

Our deepest sympathy to Janie, Chuck, Katie and all in your families. We knew Josephine so briefly, but in that short time we came to know her beautiful spirit and treasured the life and light that she generously shared with us all. Jo, our hearts are filled with gratitude in having known you. xo

Ray and I were saddened to hear you lost your Mom. I never saw her without a smile or a twinkle in her eye. We are glad you were able to spend her last days together. That is such a gift. Just having her for a mother was a great gift. We are thinking about you and sending our love. Jan & Ray
