Obituary

Charles Quincey "Chase" Gage IV, age 19, died May 14, 2015, from complications incurred in an automobile accident in Springfield. Ohio. Chase completed his sophomore year at Wittenberg University where he ran cross country and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta "Fiji” fraternity. He was also a member of the Alumni Board. He was the recipient of the Troy Frank Stallard Scholarship and the Presidential Scholarship. Chase was a 2013 graduate of Grandview Heights High School. He was an honor student, band member and runner on the cross country and track teams. He was in French club and traveled to France with the student group. He was an Eagle Scout whose project was to place markers on each corner in Grandview to identify drains systems to make them a “green" safe environment. He participated in People to People Ambassador Program and visited Australia when he was only 10 years old. He was well known in Grandview Heights for his landscaping company. In the spring he left school on weekends to service his customers. He attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. To understand his colorful (and unorthodox mix) of shoes and shirts, infectious smile, quiet leadership, meaningful outreach to friends, and the impact Chase had on his community, please see the comments on his Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/chase.gage.1?fref=ts. Chase is survived by his parents, Quint and Laura Gage of Grandview Heights, Ohio; his sister, Selby; his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Martha Lentz of St. Petersburg, Fla.; paternal grandmother, Karen Gage Woody of Charleston, W. Va.; paternal grandfather, the late Charles Q. Gage; step-grandfather, Charles L. Woody of Charleston, W.Va.; aunts and uncles, T.J. and Renee Lentz of Cincinnati; Katie and Mark Crites of Atlanta, Ga.; Geoffrey and Hope Gage of Morgantown, W.Va.; step uncle and aunt, C. Ruffner and April Woody of Charleston, W.Va.; great aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2001 Northwest Boulevard (Upper Arlington), where his family will greet friends immediately following the service in Grace Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Chase Gage Scholarship/Memorial Fund at P. O. Box 12609, Grandview Heights, Ohio 43212. Chase's house at Wittenberg will be the first gift to the scholarship fund. Arrangements entrusted with JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus. Chase Gage was a man of unbelievable spirit, youth and happiness. He introduced me to so many people, welcomed me into his home before knowing me and showed me the way Wittenberg University operates from the first day I met him. I created a friendship, a brotherhood with him that is unbreakable by any means. We shared so many beautiful and enriching moments together. Chase is one of my best friends and there is a pit in my heart that could never and will never be filled. I know as selfish as it may be of me to want him back, God had a bigger plan for his beautiful soul and I know he is smiling down on me. I cannot wait for the day when I get to see my brother again. I send my deepest and absolute most sincere condolences and prayers to, you, Chase and your family as everyone tries to get through this time. You will forever be missed, forever be remembered and forever my brother. I love you Chase. Rest in paradise my brother.

We can't begin to understand the depth of your pain, but please know that we are thinking of you. You are in our hearts and prayers. Even though we only chatted with Chase a few times we felt that we knew him through Grandpa & Bubba Lentz. Such a fine respectful motivated young man! If only there were more men like him in this world.

Although my husband and I didn't know Chase well, we of course knew who he was because of his many accomplishments at Grandview Heights High School and as a member of our community. He was a friend of our son, Nick and his passing is very hard to accept. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this sorrowful time. May he rest in peace until you are reunited again.

Our hearts go out to you and praying for your healing at this difficult time. No words can be said to make it sting any less. The love your family and friends possess for one another will help comfort. It's all about love. I never had the opportunity to meet Chase, but if he's anything like you two, Quint and Laura, I'm sure he was a welcoming and rad guy. Selby, my deepest condolences. Losing a sibling is unthinkable, and I know so surreal. To all of you, while the pain may always be there, it is the great memories of him that will keep you laughing. Take care.

I didn't know Chase, but my daughter, Maria, met him through his friends, Luke and Brad, at Ohio State. She described him as friendly and outgoing and just a great young man. As a mother, I grieve for your family. I'm so sorry for your loss! May the good Lord comfort you and may Chase delight in his heavenly reward.

Dear Quint and Family, It is with the most sincerest regrets that I reach out to you today regarding the passing of your son and brother and a fellow Fiji. While I never had the pleasure of knowing Chase, I am certain that the character instilled by his parents founded the welcoming ways in which he positively influenced students, friends and community, thus creating the legacy of this young man. "Having light we pass it on", a motto he embraced. Perge' - "press on"; the way forward that he showed to many.
