Obituary

Beth Tracewell died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital on Oct. 13, 2016. She fought bravely but succumbed to afflictions related to Down Syndrome and Alzheimer’s disease. She was born Jan. 9, 1964, to Kenneth and Margaret “Peg” (Majanscik) Tracewell, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her siblings, Ken Tracewell (Phuong), and Michael Tracewell (Vita Marinello) in Columbus; John Scott Tracewell (Jeff Ruble) of Cathedral City, CA; and Nancy (Tracewell) Shawver (Tom) of Kansas City, MO. She touched many people with her joyous spirit, happy outlook and effervescent laughter. She attended school through the ARC programs of Franklin County and was a proud participant in Ohio Special Olympics in her youth, winning medals in swimming and gymnastics. She was a natural artist and for many years sold her vividly colored abstracts at the Ohio State Fair. She was an artist at the Open Door Studio in Grandview. Beth was a 26-year employee of the Grandview Heights Public Library, working in the Tech Services and Children’s departments. She loved to work out at Curves (in Columbus and KC). She also loved visiting area restaurants, particularly Panera’s and The Red Door Tavern in Grandview. She had favorites in KC, too, including Aixois and O’Dowd’s to watch the Irish musician Eddie Delahunt. She was a world traveler, visiting Europe and Canada, with her family. She regularly journeyed to KC and California to stay with her siblings. She loved music, singing and dancing. She adored cats, dogs and birds, including feeding the ducks any place she traveled. In her later years, she lived at a CoreyCare facility with dear friends DeeDee and Jamie and a team of loving caregivers. We thank them all for their devotion and exceptional care, especially Irene, Miss B., Janet, Josephine, Fatima, Margaret, Teresa and Mabel. We will host a celebration of her life 5:30 p.m. Weds, Nov. 9, at the Open Door Art Studio, 1050 Goodale Blvd., Cols, OH. To honor her, we welcome donations to the Open Door Art Studios to support other artists expressing life and love despite disability. Beth will remain in our hearts forever. Arrangements entrusted with JOHN QUINT TREBONI, 1177 W. Fifth, Columbus. Condolences may be sent via www.johnquint.com.

No one and nothing can fill the emptiness created by the loss of our dear sister, Beth. I will treasure her memories forever. She was my hero. Her exuberance for life did not recognize any limitations. In fact she showed me the path to enlightenment and happiness.
