Thomas Eviston, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at the OSU Wexner Medical Center. Tom was born in Columbus, Ohio June 11,1926 to William and Margaret (Flynn) Eviston. Besides his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Eviston; sister, Edna Colburn; and nephew, Dennis Colburn. He is suvived by his loving wife, Norma; daughter, Antonia (Tom) MacDonald-Hinkley; son, Robert (Lesley); grandchildren, John MacDonald, Therese, Justine and Lia Hinkley; Liam and Lucas Eviston; nephew, Michael (Connie) Colburn and families. He was a graduate of Columbus Aquinas High School and The Ohio State University with a BS degree in Business Administration. He was an US Army Veteran of the Korean War, serving as a tank commander Heavy Tank Company, 7th regiment, 3rd infantry division and past president of the Korean war veterans association of Columbus Ohio. Past executive officer of the Combat Infantry Association of Columbus. Tom was a Buyer and Department Manager for Lazarus Department Store for 32 years. Served the Diocese of Columbus for over 50 years on the Diocesan Development Fund program which later became known as the Bishop's Annual Appeal. The original program began in 1959 where Tom served as Parish Chairman in Holy Name Parish for three years, followed by seven years as Central Deanery Chairman and appointed by Bishop Elwell to serve as Diocesan Lay General Chairman for the 1969-70 campaign. Long time parishioner of St Christopher Catholic Church having served as lector, Eucharistic minister, and member of parish council. Past President of St. Vincent de Paul Society, Parish Chairman BAA, Life time member of Knights of Columbus. His family will receive friends on Sunday, April 22, 2018, from 2-4 and 5-7 p.m., at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 23, 2018 at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 1420 Grandview Avenue. Rev. Fr. David Poliafico, Presider. Burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's name preferred to St. Christopher Parish, 1420 Grandview Avenue, Columbus (43212) or The James Cancer Hospital. Condolences may be sent via www.johnquint.com.
