Obituary
Jon Donavon Fowler, age 14, died Thursday, October 8, 2009. Born July 27, 1995 in Columbus to Sharon Hankins and Chris Fowler. He is survived by his parents; step-mother, Lori Fowler and brother, Mark; grandparents, Peter and Mayellen Fowler; step-grandparents, Melvin and Sally Llaneza; great grandmothers, Viva Fowler and Helen Hurst of Columbus; step-great grandmother Margaret Llaneza. Jon was an 8th grader at Holy Spirit Catholic School where he was a member of the safety patrol and a student tutor; he was an altar server for Holy Spirit Parish. He loved science, bowling, music, video and computer games, and Mel Brooks movies. He will be remembered for his quick wit, giving loving nature, his wide bright smile and dark sparkling eyes. Friends may call MONDAY, October 12, 2009, at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 W. 5th Avenue, from 4:00-8:00 p.m., where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends and family are asked to gather at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4383 E. Broad Street at Yearling on TUESDAY, October 13, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., for his Funeral Mass. Reverend Father William Arnold, Presiding. Burial, Glen Rest Memorial Estate. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute in memory of Jon to the Jon Donavon Fowler Memorial Fund, c/o JPMorgan Chase Bank, Whitehall Branch, 4660 East Main Street, Whitehall, Ohio 43213 (or, if you wish, any Chase branch location in Franklin County). Chris and Lori, I was so saddened to hear about the passing of Jon. I am still in shock and I cant even begin to imagine what you guys are going through. Jon was a very nice and respectful kid. I will always remember him for his quick wit, Wow he was great!! He always suprised us when he was in our chair with the things he would say and for his quick comebacks. I never met Jon and my kids are older and only knew him from a distance however after working many Friday Bingos with Chris or Lori I know without a doubt he was a terrific young man and he will be greatly missed by his family & friends. To the Family of Jon, How could we have thought that tragedy was reserved for others, that we somehow were special? I also lost a child 4 years ago. My daughters, Julie Popovich was a victim of homocide in 2005. Being in the spotlight of the media is a difficult position, that no parent should be forced to endure. Rest assured they all mean well.
I believe the hardest part for me are those who don't know what to say, and so, they say nothing, and it hurts so much. Your life is an upheaval, you are frightened and confused. The ground seems to have cracked open and it feels as if you are standing at the crumbing edge of a terrible abyess. And you wonder and even dare to hope that someone will push you in, so you no longer have to, "hang in there", "keep your chin up", "put one foot in front of the other", and "think of the happy times".
Be patient with those who try to console you; to bring you hope is to consider the mortality of their own child, and a parent, simply can't go there.
Always know, you are in my thoughts and prayers. And know also, that although the pain never goes away, know that it gets "different". I remember feeling as though I could not take one more breath without Julie. It simply hurt too much. I urge you strongly to find a support group, not today , tommorrow or even next month, but eventually you will be ready to open up your broken heart to those who have shared your loss.
