Obituary

Michael "Mike" Martina, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Kobacker House. He was born January 7, 1928 to Angelo and Grace (Montenaro) Martina. He grew up in Grandview and graduated from Grandview High School where he met his wife of 70 years, Juanita (Palma) Martina. Mike had a wonderful smile for all he met, and a passion for life that touched many people. Mike was proud of his Italian heritage and proud of his country that he served in the United States Coast Guard. After his service he married his sweetheart, Juanita. He attended Franklin University and worked for the Huffman Wolfe Company where he became head of the sheet metal division. In 1961 Mike started his own sheet metal company...Martina Metal Contracting Company. He employed 100’s of union sheet metal workers that became like family to him. He was very devoted to the industry and became an owner/manager Trustee of the Sheet Metal International Union. He also served as President of the Sheet Metal Contractors Assn and the Mechanical Contractors of Central Ohio. He enjoyed playing golf and cards (Gin Rummy) at the American Italian Golf Club (Riviera) that he and his friends founded for themselves and their families. Mike served as President of both, the American Italian Golf Association, and Riviera Country Club, and was a Board member for many years. He was also a member of the Guild Athletic Club. To all my gin buddies, your debts are hereby cancelled! Mike’s hobbies were baking, golfing, traveling, reading, playing cards and being with his family. Mike took pride in continuing his mother's traditional Italian recipes. Each season had a special treat. He especially enjoyed baking with his grandson, Alan who will carry on these traditions. He is preceded in death by parents; special grandson (and Godson) Michael "Mic" Martina; sisters, Anita and Mary Catherine, brothers, Nick and Joe. He is survived by his wife, wife, Juanita. Mike is also survived by his daughter, Anita Martina and her son Alan...who are two of the greatest caregivers anyone could have; sons, Michael (Lisa) and Anthony; grandchildren, Alan, Allio, Casey, Josie, and Vinny. His family will receive friends on Friday, April 6, 2018, from 4-7 p.m., at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 1559 Roxbury Road (Marble Cliff). Rev. Msgr. Romano Ciotola, Presider. Burial to follow, St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's name preferred to Kobacker House, 800 McConnell Drive, Columbus (43214).
