Obituary

Mary (Beltram) Harper left the worries of the world behind for the joyful experience of God's Eternal love and care on Saturday, March 17, 2018. Born, December 29, 1930 in Newark, NJ, to Joseph and Mary (Pedri) Beltram. As a young child the family moved to Columbus, Ohio and Mary grew up in the Grandview Heights area; attended Our Lady of Victory grade school and their high school graduation class of 1948. She attended The Ohio State University and Ohio Dominican College (St. Mary of the Springs) and married Terrance J. Harper in 1952. Widowed at age 38, Mary shouldered a great responsibility and challenges following the untimely death of her young husband in 1969, raising three teenagers and a four year old on her own, adopting Scarlett O'Hara's attitude, "Tomorrow is another day." Former member of St. Michael's parish, Worthington, now a current member of St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church with membership in St. John's Guild #16 and Amici D'Oro. Past membership in Le Donne, Single Again Support Group, Cum Christo # 24 and School Employees Retirement System. Former volunteer usher for Kenley Players and CAPA. Retired from Worthington Schools. The children grew up and left to follow their own career paths, and as an empty nester, Mary joined the church's single again support group and enjoyed the company of the many social activities, going to Italy, and Spain and several cruises; playing cards, especially "May I" and regularly lunching with a small circle of high school friends, "The Victory Girls," for over 67 years; some known since grade school. Mary was skilled at playing "Scrabble" and enjoyed doing the daily newspaper crossword IN INK. Having a great sense of humor, she looked forward to celebrating her birthday celebration group especially when she celebrated the 46th anniversary of her 39th birthday. Mary was a great handyman with a drill, saw and hammer and paint brushes; very creative in working on her own design projects in decorating her home. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Terrance J. Harper; son, Kristopher Harper; and brother, Leo Beltram. Survived by children, Katherine Harper, Salem, OR, Karen Weber, Imperial, MO, and Kevin Harper, Columbus; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Lillian Mangia; cousins in New Jersey, New York, and Florida; special cousin, Delores Jacoby; Per her request, a private burial was held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne. A Memorial Mass and celebration of life to be announced at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus, Ohio.
