Obituary

William C. Baytos (Bill or Billy to his friends), left this Earth on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, doing exactly what he enjoyed. He swam his daily laps, visited the library, shopped for bargains with his son, and spent his evening chatting with a long time friend. Bill was born in Youngstown, Ohio, as the fourth child of Anna Stefanik and Steven Bajtosh. He was an active, loving father to his four children, Pamela, Laura, Ken and Tom; and grandfather to three boys. He is also survived by his sister, Marge McGraw and brother, Steve Bajtosh. He is preceded in death by his dear wife, Carol; as well as his brother, John and sisters, Eleanor Kollar and Ann Reese. Bill understood what it meant to celebrate and enjoy the little things in life. He lived a well balanced life of mind, body and spirit. His daily swims were as vital to him as his daily meals. He was an avid reader and spent most days at the library checking out the latest books. It was so important to interact with family and friends via daily phone calls and emails. Bill also enjoyed learning and sharing his knowledge. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Youngstown College and The Ohio State University graduate school. During college he was a member of the R.O.T.C. program and shortly thereafter was deployed to the Korean War as a Cartographer for several years. Upon his return from Korea, he relocated to Columbus, met his wife, Carol, and began his career as a scientist at Battelle Memorial Institute. He worked with Battelle throughout his entire professional career which entailed many years of traveling all over the United States as well as Europe. His retirement years were spent traveling with his wife, Carol, tending to his garden, reading, swimming and keeping in contact with family and friends. Funeral 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus, where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private for immediate family members. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Grandview Heights Public Library – Memorial Donations, 1685 W. First Ave. Columbus, OH 43212. or online at http://www.ghpl.org/support/donation_contact.php. Condolences may be sent via www.johnquint.com.
