Obituary

John L Slupski, age 83, passed in his sleep from a broken heart on September 10, 2014. Preceded in death by his devoted wife, Paula (Abbruzzese) Slupski; beloved mother, Julia Slupski; father, Louis Slupski; brother, Dan Slupski; sister, Rita Felton; numerous uncles and especially uncle Frank Persak. Survived by sister, Jeanette (Bob) Swenson; many loved in-laws, nephews, neices and his four children, sons, Dennis (Rene), John-Paul (Terri) and Nick Slupski; daughter, Julie (Jeff) Riddle; grandchildren, Caleb, Luke and Josh Slupski, Danielle (Matt) O'Connell, Aaron, Zack and Adam Slupski, Jacob and Gabe Slupski, Levi and Audrey Riddle; great-grandchildren, Josephine Paula O'Connell, Samuel Matthew O'Connell, Wyatt Paul Slupski and another due in October. John was born May 30, 1931 in Thorp Wisconsin. John was a standout athlete and actor at his high school, which he was always loyal to. He was drafted into the United States Air Force to serve as a jet mechanic during the Korean War, it was during training at Rickenbacker (Lockbourne) AFB that he met his future wife Paula on a blind date. They were married for 58 eventful years. With Paula, he raised his children, owned John Slupski Masonry, and later co-owned Silver Rule Masonry, doing jobs big and small all over the United States. He served over 25 years in the U.S. Navy Reserves and retired as a SeaBee Petty Officer. He coached baseball and football at St. Matthias and later St. Anthony schools, and influenced many young men to be persistant and tough in the face of life. He liked to watch his kids and grandchildren in sports and hardly ever missed a game. He was always there to support his family. Above it all, he loved his wife and never got over her passing away in 2011. Together they built two homes in Western Montana, and lived there and in Ohio for many years. They traveled all over the country having adventures, and enjoying life. He will be sadly missed by friends, classmates, fellow veterans, co-workers and relatives. But most dearly missed by his four grieving children who he loved unconditionally. His saying was "If I had to live life over, I wouldn't change a thing." He lived large, loved deeply, and gave generously. There will not be another like him. Friends may call Monday, September 15, 2014, from 3-7 p.m., at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 W. 5th Avenue, Columbus. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during these difficult days as you morn the loss of your father. I will remember the passion that my 'Uncle Johnny' had for life and the love he gave to his family. As God's grace has made a place in heaven for John, may it also give each of you comfort and peace. I love you all.

I was so sorry to hear about your loss. It is never easy. The only thing that helps, a little, is to know that he and Pauline are back together again. I bet Aunt Lena had a cup of coffee waiting for your Dad- just like she would when he would stop by for his visits. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Love, your Cousin-Toni

I was privileged to serve in the Seabees with John for several years in Columbus. He was in deed one of the most caring and giving men I have ever met. Please accept my condolences on his passing.
In Christ, Frank Rogers.

I wish I could be there for you and to hug each of you. There are no words of comfort at a time like this but I hope knowing that he touched so many lives and will never be forgotten helps. Your father lived life LARGE, with so much energy and enthusiasm. I feel blessed to have been your neighbor and have loved your parents and family all my life. Peace to all of you. XOXOXO

I met Mr Slupski at California Fitness and from the time i met him until the last time i saw him last week. He reminded me of the power of love and how it is something we can never give up on. Even though i was of a different faith he knew i specialized in outreach and helping people and he did not hesitate to offer help by donating. He will be missed but i pray God grants him the peace he desired from the loss of his wife who i know he loved more than anything else inthe world. I am six foot seven and he often reminded me that he could take me lol. May God bless this wonderful family during this time.

I will try to get there tonight after practice. I was saddened to hear about your father, I really liked him. I enjoyed talking to him in Feb of 2013 at the CCL wrestling tourn at DeSales. Interesting thing is that on the day he died I was talking about him with Phil Mauro. A fond memory of talking to him after practice during Nicks freshman football season. You have my deepest sympathy.

Our deepest condolences on the passing of your father. The few times I met him, it was very apparent the level of passion and love he had for his family. I know today and the next coming days will be difficult. Never waiver on the fact that his love for you and your family will always be present and will live on forever.

We were sad to read John's obituary in the Thorp Courier. We had a wonderful visit when he came to Thorp in June. He stopped at our farm and told us this is where he lived when he was nine yrs. old (with his grandparents, mother, siblings and uncle). We enjoyed all his stories. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. We enjoyed the "Celebration of Life" video. Our sympathy to all. Ray & Joanne Jacks

Sorry we missed you. Like many people our parents age, he was a breath of fresh air. Your dad was quite a character. Lots of fond memories. He had a zest for life most people don't get, or have the energy to live. We all will miss him, but he is now with your mom, he is happy. Love you.

To all ,

Thank you for your thoughtful condolences. They mean much in such a difficult time. It is not easy to get over the loss of somebody as influential and unique as my father. I'm sure I can speak for my brother and sister in saying, we are grateful for all of your prayers and sentiments. God bless all.
