Obituary

John Anthony Dell Italia, age 88, was born September 16, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Eugenio and Guiseppina. He passed on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at home peacefully with his family. John is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Violet (DiCesare) Dell Italia. He is also survived by his sons, Eugene
(Barbara) of Staten Island, New York, John (Susan) of Floral Park, New York; and daughter, Roseann (Geoffrey) Layman of Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Eugene (Tracy) Keith, Eric (Maria), James, Vincent (Alina), David (Meryl), Elyse (Daniel) and Michael Layman; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Matthew, Vincent, Briella and Ava Grace; sister-in-laws, Maria Dell Italia of New York, Mary DiCesare, Norma (Bill) Rose; and brother-in-law, Ron Reeb. Numerous nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces and many cousins and great friends. He is preceded in death by brothers Nicholas (Anna), Mario, Anthony (Terry) Dell Italia; sister, Josephine (Michael) Dispigno and Eleanor Dell Italia; brother-in-law Joseph DiCesare; sister-in-law Jane (Ralph) Marzullo. He was a member of GAC, AmVets, Knights of Columbus, Amico Dioro and St. Francis Seniors. John was proud to serve in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. He retired from the City of New York. In his retirement years John loved to travel, visit with family and friends as well as go to garage sales. Thanks to all the caregivers of Heartland Hospice including Dawn, Tonya and Sarah. John's family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 4-8 p.m., at THE JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus, with a Prayer Service at 4 p.m., and the GAC and Flytown services at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 27, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church, 720 Hamlet Street, Columbus (Italian Village). Entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, Ohio. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions on John's honor made to the St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church Renovation Fund, 720 Hamlet St., Columbus (43215) or Heartland Hospice of Columbus, 6500 Busch Blvd., Columbus (43229).
